Students entered a room where a staged crime had been committed and had to act as investigators, asking questions and taking notes on a time limit. Crime scene reports then had to be written up, with the student investigators explaining what had happened at the scene. The following day, students attended two seminars. The first was Gangs in Southside Virginia. The speaker mentioned the tactics used by national gangs with local counterparts. The second seminar was A Conversation About Hazing, an interactive discussion on this dangerous practice on and off college campuses. Later that day was the awards banquet and ceremony. Chuck Hollingsworth, announced the command’s 2010 Instructors of the Year (IOY) Mar 18. “After serious consideration of the highly qualified candidates from the CPPD domain, Lieutenant Dan Hemminger has been selected as our Officer [Intructor of the Year]; Chief Aviation Electronics Technician (AW/SW) Brian Broussard has been selected as our Senior Enlisted [Instructor of the Year], and Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class (AW/SW) Jonathan Farrer has been selected as our Enlisted Instructor of the Year,” said Hollingsworth. “As the learning center responsible for the training and development of all of the Navy’s instructors, and all the Navy’s leaders, we hold our instructors to the highest personal and professional standards, and this year’s selectees reflect those standards.” Hemminger, is assigned to CPPD Learning Site San Diego where he instructs the Division Officer Leadership and Journeyman Instructor Training courses.
